   CANINO

De Bosis F. described it in the Ampelographic Bulletins of the Province in 1879 amongst the vines of the area of Rimini. It is said to be identical to the Canino di Montiano and di Bertinoro. In the past it used to be a highly grown variety in the area of Rimini mainly for its good agronomical features as it is rustic and fruitful. It was used as table grapes since it was not easily-rotten. The ancient notes on this vine, nevertheless, suggest this is not able to supply high quality wines. Some wines (obtained from a reduced scale wine making) I could taste some years ago in the "Cantina Regionale Sperimentale" (Experimental Regional Cooperative) in Tebano confirmed this opinion. |
