VERDETTO

It is classified by De Bosis F. in the Ampelographic Bulletins of the Province of 1879 as one of the white grapes of the Rimini area. Verdetto seems to be a typical vine from Rimini since there are not reports mentioning its presence in Cesena and Forlì surroundings, as it is the case with other grapes. It is also said to be similar to Verdicchio, but actually it is not. During the Conference "I Nostri Vini" (Our wines) held on January 30th 1887 in Circolo Agricolo Riminese (Rimini Agricultural Club), Alessandro Pasqualini said: "Among the white vines, my preference goes to Bianchello and Verdetto, they give us an abundant and good product". According to the old vine-growers, because of its greenish colour, also when growing ripe, it was planted in the more distant rows from home, in fact due to this colour it was not likely to be stolen during the grape harvest time. There are still few of these vines at San Giovanni in Marignano, in what is left from the old rows.
It is worth reproducing it to have enough quantity of grapes to make wine on a reduced scale just using that vine.
